Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who, while leaving a convenience store one evening, finds himself mysteriously transported to a medieval fantasy world. Disoriented but curious, he quickly meets Emilia, a beautiful half-elf young woman gifted with magical powers, who helps him get out of a bad situation. But this first encounter takes a dramatic turn: Subaru and Emilia are brutally murdered by a mysterious enemy. It is then that Subaru discovers his strange ability — "Return by Death" — which automatically sends him back to a specific point in the past every time he dies. Doomed to relive the same tragic events over and over again, Subaru will attempt to use his knowledge of the future to protect those he loves. But each loop reveals new dangers, new mysteries, and above all the true psychological toll of dying repeatedly without being able to tell anyone about it. As the arcs progress, he grows closer to Emilia, a candidate for the throne of the kingdom of Lugunica, but also to colorful characters such as Rem and Ram, two oni sisters serving a nobleman, and Beatrice, a mysterious magical archivist. Season 1 blends action, fantasy and intense emotional drama, exploring powerful themes such as resilience, sacrifice, and the limits of human willpower in the face of suffering.
