Chapter 1 — Episode 1
First, Rokuro Okajima, a Japanese salaryman, finds himself captive aboard a vessel in the South China Sea, interrogated by Dutch, the leader of the Black Lagoon crew, about a disk he was transporting from Asahi Industries in Tokyo to Borneo. Dutch confirms the disk is sufficient payment for their job, while Revy and Benny are also present as crew members. Dutch then warns nearby naval scouts not to pursue them, threatening them with a torpedo launcher before departing with Rokuro as their unwilling passenger. Then, the Black Lagoon crew arrives at Roanapur, a lawless port city founded by Vietnam War deserters, where Dutch receives intelligence that a Chinese crime lord named Wan Taikei has sent mercenaries from the Extra Order company to assassinate Rokuro. Meanwhile, Rokuro learns the shocking truth from his company superior Kageyama via radio: the disk contained nuclear weapons development plans, and Asahi Industries has deliberately abandoned him, ordering his death to keep the secret buried. At the end, Kageyama dispatches a heavily armed assault helicopter to eliminate Rokuro and the Black Lagoon crew entirely. As the gunship bears down on the boat and opens fire, Rokuro reaches a breaking point, furiously confronting both his betrayal by his own company and his desperate situation aboard the Black Lagoon, leaving his fate hanging in the balance as the helicopter attack intensifies.
