Eighty Six Season 1

Chapter 22 — Episode 22

First, the episode opens with Shinei Nouzen confronting the consciousness of Kiriya Nouzen, the Legion's Morpho unit, who challenges Shin by declaring that the dead have no place in the world of the living and must disappear. Kiriya taunts Shin, claiming he has nothing left — no purpose, no home, no reason to live — and that he was merely kept alive to destroy the Morpho. During this psychological confrontation, Shin is overwhelmed by memories of fallen comrades, including Kaie and his brother Shourei, who urge him to let go and move on, while Kurena breaks down blaming Shin for everything they have lost. Then, in the middle of the episode, Vladilena Milizé delivers a passionate declaration to her troops, identifying herself as the commander of the former Republic's Defense Forces and vowing never to abandon the war. She explains that the Eighty-Six warned her about the Legion's large-scale assault, which allowed her to survive, and that she fights to honor their memory and reach them beyond the battlefield. Her words reach Shin, who begins to reckon with his own will to survive, and the two share a significant but anonymous encounter — Lena does not realize she is speaking with Shin. Finally, after the Morpho is destroyed and Legion forces are repelled, Shin reunites with Raiden, Kurena, Anju, and Theoto, who survived the mission. Raiden pushes Shin to reflect on why he chose not to reveal his identity to Lena, and Shin admits he cannot face her until he has found a destination worth fighting toward. The episode ends with Shin and his squadmates quietly discussing Lena — now changed, bolder — as Shin softly addresses her by her old callsign
