Chapter 12 — Episode 12

**Frieren: Beyond Journey's End — Season 1, Episode 12: "The Legendary Hero"** First, the episode opens twenty-nine years after Himmel's death in the Schwiel Mountain Range, where Frieren falls asleep while traveling and must be carried by her companions. During a rest, Himmel recounts in a flashback how he received a replica Hero's Sword as a child and how a young Heiter's taunt — that a fake sword could only make a fake hero — inspired him to vow to become a true hero by obtaining the real blade and defeating the Demon King. Then, back in the present, Frieren wakes as the group pushes through a blizzard heading north, eventually arriving at the Village of Swords, where the 49th village chief greets them. Stark explains the village's legend: the true Hero's Sword, said to have been granted by the goddess, was embedded in a nearby sanctuary and could only be drawn by the hero destined to defeat a great calamity — a feat Himmel accomplished eighty years prior. The group also learns that a "mountain lord" has been destroying structures around the village. Finally, the episode reveals a key emotional flashback for Stark: his older brother secretly cooked him hamburger steak on his birthday and then sacrificed himself, urging Stark to flee and survive. Back in the present, Frieren prepares a hamburger steak using a recipe obtained from Eizen, and Stark quietly confirms it tastes good, bringing the episode to a warm but bittersweet close.
