Chapter 8 — Episode 8

The episode opens with a nighttime confrontation in a prison cell, where a demon assassin named Draht, servant of Aura the Guillotine, attempts to kill the imprisoned mage Macht using a mana wire. Macht survives by concentrating mana around his neck, then defeats Draht with the help of an unseen ally, but discovers the prison guard has been killed in the process. First, Frieren escapes prison after the incident, explaining to Stark and Fern that she would be blamed for the guard's death, and the group debates their next move against the remaining demons, with Stark admitting his fear of the powerful demon Lügner. Then, Frieren and her companions sneak into Graf Granat's manor, where Lügner is pressuring the Graf to reveal the spell controlling the town's protective barrier, originally created by the Great Mage Flamme. Stark confronts Lügner directly to create an opening, engaging him in combat while Fern slips in undetected and strikes Lügner with a modified version of Zoltraak, a spell specialized to kill demons. The group is forced to retreat when the Graf is severely injured, but not before Lügner is wounded by Fern's magic. At the end, as Lügner recovers and plans to pursue the group, he recognizes the modified Zoltraak spell and realizes it bears the influence of Frieren, whom he identifies as "Frieren the Slayer" — the mage who has killed the most demons in history — marking her as a far more dangerous threat than anticipated.
